After a delicious breakfast of homemade muffins, yoghurt and local fruit, your English teacher, will meet you on your terrace for your first English lesson.
Your first lesson will focus on:
- finding out what your English level, needs and goals are,
- discussing what we will do for the week,
- giving you an orientation of Knysna and the Garden Route,
- preparing a worksheet on the excursion of the day.
EXCURSION OF THE DAY – KNYSNA FEATHERBED NATURE RESERVE
- The town of Knysna is built on a large warm water estuary, known as the Knysna Lagoon.
- The lagoon opens to the ocean through two large headlands known as "The Heads”.
- The eastern head is developed, but the western head is protected by a private nature reserve called the Featherbed Nature Reserve.
After your English lesson, your host and guide, will take you on an amazing Eco Experience! You will go across the lagoon by ferry to the western head, take a 4X4 vehicle drive up the headland onto the Reserve, stopping at spectacular viewpoints where an expert English guide will teach you about the area, the plants, and the animals.
Then you will go on an easy 2.2km walk through the coastal forest and into some ancient sea caves. (The walk is optional)
Along the walk, you will have the opportunity for a lot of one-to-one English conversation with your guide, and at the same time gather information to complete an English worksheet to improve your English skills.
After the walk you will go to the reserve’s restaurant and have a fabulous lunch outside under the old Milkwood trees.
After lunch you return to Knysna by ferry, then you are free to enjoy the rest of the day exploring, shopping, relaxing, or doing your homework for the next day.

EXCURSION OF THE DAY – CIRCLES IN THE FOREST WALK AND PICNIC
- The Knysna Forest is the largest continuous indigenous forest in South Africa and forms part of the Garden Route National Park.
- The heart of the Knysna forest has old giant trees and plants, beautiful flowers, birds, streams, waterfalls, baboons, bushbuck, and other small animals.
- The Circles in the Forest walk is situated in the Goldfield Forests 22 kilometres outside Knysna.
After your English lesson, your host and guide will take you for a lovely scenic drive to the Goldfield Forests.
The Circles in the Forest trail is 3 or 9 kms and starts and ends at the picnic site. It is a beautiful easy to moderate walk through the forest. You will follow an old mining and woodcutters path and have a genuine forest experience as you pass giant 600-year-old trees, 3-metre-high ferns, see beautiful birds and flowers, cross over streams with small wooden bridges and swim in a lovely pool with a waterfall if you do the 9 km walk. You will have the chance to gather information as you walk to complete another English worksheet and practice your English.
Your walk ends at the picnic site where you can lie on the lovely green grass or sit at the picnic benches, relax and enjoy a delicious home packed picnic in the forest!
